Powerful dance-making emerges from relationships between people. ODC Summer Workshops build connections between dancers at every stage of their practice. Choreographers and dance company members work deeply with participants in all of our programs, creating together, discussing the art form, strategizing career options and finding inspiration. Together, ODC’s workshops are courageous, exploratory, and playful opportunities for dancers of all ages to train and move together.

Ground Grooves Workshop with Arletta Anderson

Ground Grooves is a floorwork approach and movement mindset that will heighten your physical sensitivity and soften your relationship with the floor. Utilizing choreographic sequencing, you will feel empowered to refine functional patterns and thoroughly embody conceptual floorwork ideas.

Lively, Joyful Dancing: A One-Week Intensive Workshop with Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton

Choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton offer a dynamic intensive workshop for intermediate and advanced dancers that utilizes daily technique, repertory and creative process as a means to encourage more engaged, enlivened and joyful dancing. Each day will begin with a 1.5 hour modern technique class taught by Garrett that will focus on strengthening technique and heightening artistic expression. The afternoons will include a repertory session in which participants will learn Garrett + Moulton repertory with special attention given to refining dynamics, phrasing, musicality, spatial sensitivity, rhythmic awareness and focus. The day will end with a creative process session facilitated by Moulton and Garrett that will explore new models of dance making and fun ways to generate energized movement vocabulary. This workshop is designed for dancers seeking a supportive environment in which to have a deeply physical immersive experience that encourages them to excel beyond limitations and perform to their highest potential.

ODC/Company Summer Intensive: Beyond Technique with Brenda Way & Katie Faulkner

ODC/Dance Summer Intensive: Beyond Technique is tailored for professional and experienced dancers seeking a dynamic exploration and advancement of their craft. The ODC/Dance Company of fearless movers and choreographers will dive into and expand contemporary and ballet techniques to the next level. Special guest choreographer Katie Faulkner will lead an exploration of creative practice, and Founding Artistic Director Brenda Way will oversee the remounting of seminal ODC/Dance company repertory. ODC Theater State of Play Workshop with State of Play Festival Artists

Dance your way through State of Play!

The State of Play Workshop is a three-day dance and movement-based workshop featuring a selection of artists from ODC Theater’s State of Play festival. Festival goers attending the workshop will have the opportunity to learn from a selection of regional and national choreographers and curators in technical, somatic, and performance-based sessions. Each morning will begin with technique and somatic sessions, followed by varying afternoon content, with each instructor guiding students through a distinct process of play. The State of Play workshop is geared towards professional dancers, though all movers are welcomed and encouraged to join at their own pace.
