In this three-part series we will collect source materials and dissect “found” movement vocabularies, we’ll play with methodologies for sequencing events for maximum impact, and we’ll talk about and design containers (structures) that support and inform content. Participants are invited to bring in material that is in-progress (contact Christy for scheduling) and/or start something brand-new in the workshop.

Since forming Funsch Dance Experience in 2002, Christy Funsch has had her work presented nationally and internationally, on its own and in collaborative partnerships with Nol Simonse, Julie Mayo, and Stephen Pelton. Christy holds an MFA and a Movement Analysis Certification, and she has been awarded choreographic residencies at CounterPULSE, Djerassi, Shawl Anderson, the U Cross Foundation, and Yaddo. She has participated in ODC’s Sandbox Series and CHIME Across Borders, the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company’s cross-national Choreographers in Mentorship Exchange program with mentor Tere O’Connor. In 2014, she was presented in Yerba Buena’s Bay Area Now Series and named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.” In 2015 she taught her improvisational practice 100 Days Score at ImpulsTANZ in Vienna, and she became the first woman to be granted permission to learn and perform Daniel Nagrin's 1965 solo, Path. She regularly facilitates Wrecking, based on Susan Rethorst's model for re-imagining dance, and she teaches at City College San Francisco and Cabrillo College. Visit www.funschdance.org.
