Working through one topic per class, students will begin by learning anatomy, typical causes of dance -related injuries, physical therapy exercises and self-healing techniques. Working in pairs or groups you will also explore and discover your own strengths and weaknesses. The goal is to prevent injuries, better to take the class BEFORE you are injured, but if you are already injured, it is also a great time to learn how to start healing yourself, and hopefully prevent further problems.
This series is designed for dancers from recreational to professional ages 12 to 100. The Dancers’ Self-Healing Series is taught by Kendall Alway, DPT (physical therapist), occasionally with the assistance of UCSF PT students.
• Learn anatomy related to each topic and connect what may be the missing links in your understanding of your body.
• Learn typical problems dancers develop and why.
• Ways to correct technique errors that lead to these problems.
• Exercises and self-healing techniques to help heal yourself.
