What is Seeds?

Co-Directed by Nicole Klaymoon, Artistic Director of Embodiment Project and Amber Julian, Seeds, ODC’s Teen Hip Hop Dance Company offers students the opportunity to delve deep into hip hop dance training and performance. Styles include popping, house, classic hip hop, waacking, and other street genres. With an emphasis on performance quality and originality, this teen company teaches students how to freestyle and perform choreography with confidence and passion.

    Karen Albarran 2018/19 Seeds Member
    Karen Albarran is a 17-year-old dancer from San Francisco who attends Lowell High School. Karen has been dancing at ODC for 5 years and she has trained in ballet, contemporary, tap, and hip-hop. For the last four years she has been a part of ODC Teen Hip-Hop Company, Seeds. In Seeds she has trained in all styles of hip-hop, including house and waacking, and she has learned to perform and freestyle movement with important messages behind them that are important to her.

    Isabelle Barroga has been a part of the ODC Teen Hip Hop Crew, Seeds, for the last 4 years. This young Filipino American was born and raised in the Bay Area and has been dancing with ODC for 11 years. Now 17 years old, she attends The Bay School of San Francisco. Isabelle has performed in ODC/Dance and ODC School productions, the Velveteen Rabbit and Uncertain Weather.

    Odette Bradbury is a 16-year-old student at Albany High School and 2019 will mark her 3rd year dancing with SEEDS, the ODC teen Hip Hop crew. Odette grew up immersed in many different artistic genres and she took many ballet, gymnastics and other dance-oriented classes at various studios when she was younger. Odette is also widely trained in music, with training in classical singing as well as piano and saxophone. In the future Odette hopes to establish a balance between her creative ventures and find work at the intersection of art and activism.

    Popping and locking her way into the freestyle dance community, Julia started her training at MVMNT studios mid July of 2018. Training in all styles, her passion for dancing galvanized during a week intensive at Dance Mission Theater hosted by Embodiment Project; training with dancers such as Just Jamz, Tyoin, Shea Mizrahi, etc. This is her first year with ODC's teen hip-hop company, Seeds, and although she's still new to the dance scene, her hunger and drive also landed her a spot to train with fast footwork HouseofJaxx guided by Jenay (Shinobijaxx). When she isn't housing, Julia can be found voguing with the International KiKi House of Angels. Making top 8 in battles such as All the Way Live hosted by CTA Agency and Wreckenshop, her love for dance continues to grow.

    Ruby Jagel has been dancing around her house and randomly in public spaces her whole life, but has been training at ODC & Dance Mission since she was 11. She is a 15-year-old sophomore at the Urban school in San Francisco. She has trained in many different styles but especially enjoys hip-hop and contemporary dance. Dance, for Ruby, is where passion, hard work, creativity, community, self-expression and love collide.

    Born in LA, Piper Jolie Rutchik moved with her family to SF when she was 2 years old. She has been dancing for 12 years primarily studying ballet and, more recently, contemporary and hip-hop. Piper is 15 years old and is currently a sophomore at Tamalpais High School.

    Neary Jullien is a 15 years old high school sophomore at the LFSF and a dancer at ODC. She comes from Paris, France, where she trained in many different sports, but her number one passion is dance, an activity that helps her express herself. She is experienced in modern-jazz, contemporary and hip-hop, and is now part of the ODC Teen Hip-Hop Company, Seeds, which she joined in 2018.

    Pablo Lopez is 15 years old and currently attends the Urban School of San Francisco. Pablo has been dancing for most of his life and has dance training in ballet, contemporary, and ariel arts. He has been training in hip-hop for four years and this is Pablo's 3rd year in the ODC's Teen Hip Hop Crew, Seeds. He can't wait to continue with the Seeds to learn and grow as a dancer.

    Hadrien Madamour, 15 years old, from Toulouse, France, and arrived in San Francisco at the end of August 2018. Trained at the Conservatoire Régional de Danse de Toulouse since the age of 8 (contemporary dance). Has been regularly attending summer internships at the James Carles Academy every summer for the past 3 years. The style of dance he likes is a mix of contemporary dance, modern dance, and hip-hop.

    Journey Moore-Prewitt is a 15-year-old sophomore at Lick-Wilmerding High School. Born in San Francisco she has danced at ODC since she was three years old. She has taken a wide range of classes, from tap to hip-hop to flamenco. Journey is very passionate about dance and is excited to continue doing so right here at ODC.

    Stella Robinson has been training in hip-hop at ODC over the last 4 years. Before joining ODC, she was a ballet dancer at the Paula Hunt Dance Studio for 4 years. Stella is a junior at the Urban School of San Francisco and is originally from New Zealand.

    Lena Samak is a 15 year old high school sophomore at Le Lycée Français de San Francisco who works to express herself as an artist. She studied ballet for 9 years at Temps Dance in France, and when she moved to SF, learned contemporary for 1 year at ODC. In September of 2018 she finally found her place in the ODC Teen Hip-Hop Company, Seeds.

    Lillian Stone is a 17 year old senior at Le Lycée Français de San Francisco. This year she is part of Seeds, the ODC Teen Hip-Hop Crew, for a second season and is also training via Flamenco Performance workshops at ODC. She began her ballet training at Ms. Tilly’s Ballet at the age of 5 before training with Pascale Leroy’s Ballet Center and finally ODC. She performed in ODC/Dance's Velveteen Rabbit multiple times and was a part of the ODC Dance Jam for two years, from 2016-2018. She has also trained in Flamenco, musical theater, classical singing, and was a competitive rhythmic gymnast for 5 years. This past summer she attended CSSSA and is hoping to attend another dance summer intensive this year. Looking to the future, Lillian wants to keep dance as a big part of her life wherever it takes her.

    From dancing in her bedroom with her sister to dancing with ODC Seeds, Léa Vilna-Santos’s passion for dance has only increased with time. She went from a 1-hr dance class with Just Dance Academy to joining the ODC Teen Hip Hop Crew, Seeds, where she dances 6-hrs per week. Léa attends school at the Lycée Français de San Francisco and is currently completing her sophomore year. This 15 year old was born in SF and has lived in the Bay Area ever since but she has a diverse background; her mother is from France and her father, from the Philippines.

    Cassidy Walters is 17 years old, goes to Independence High School, and is originally from the Philippines. Her love of dance has always been prevalent, as a child she would choreograph her own dances to perform at family gatherings. She started technical training and performing when she was 13 and has loved it ever since.
